    General Info

Co-hosted by the Precision Vaccines Program of Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH; Boston, MA) and Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù (OPBG; Rome, Italy), the Biomarkers of vaccine safety and efficacy in Vulnerable Population Conference is developed by the IPVC Organizing Committee led by Prof. Ofer Levy of Boston Children’s Hospital and Prof. Paolo Palma of Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù. This in-person conference will gather experts in vaccinology and immunology from academia, government and industry to provide insight on the conference theme:

Precision Vaccines: Biomarkers of vaccine safety and efficacy in vulnerable populations

    Topic

Vaccines prevent ~3 million deaths every year and are crucial in combating antimicrobial resistance. Optimizing implementation of existing vaccines could help avert up to 1.5 million additional deaths as well as disabilities resulting from vaccine preventable diseases. Immunologically vulnerable populations (VPs), including pregnant women, term and preterm newborns and young infants, older adults and patients affected by chronic or immunocompromising conditions are frequently under-vaccinated and/or at risk of reduced vaccine efficacy, presenting a major health and economic burden to society. Vaccine development programs mainly focus on healthy populations; therefore, vaccination strategies are often based on data arising from healthy study participants. The goal of the 4th International Precision Vaccines Conference is to discuss and reflect on recent studies of vaccine safety and immunogenicity relevant to vulnerable populations. We welcome abstracts from different disciplines, spanning scientific areas in epidemiology, basic immunology, systems vaccinology, and human in vitro modeling. We encourage submissions focused on the following themes:

    1. Host-, pathogen- or drug-related mechanisms that can affect responsiveness to vaccines in VPs
    2. Safety and immunogenicity of existing and novel vaccines for different pathological conditions and age groups, represented by VPs
    3. Proposed new biomarkers of safety and efficacy to guide effective optimal vaccination of VPs
